Perfume Types: Everything You Need to Know

You might have come across various terms on fragrances. Most magazines may have eluded you to the importance of cologne to a man and how a lady should not be seen out in the open without a favorite Eau de parfum.

However, not all people know that there is something different about these words. They are not just fancy words but indicate the type of fragrance that one has on. That being said, check out the 5 common types of perfumes you will come across.

  1. Parfum

You have probably come across the Extrait de Parfum in a store. The most remarkable thing about this type is that it costs so much.

Extrait de Parfum originated with the fragrance bearing up anywhere from 15 to 40 percent of the content. The concentration ranges from 20 to 30 percent, so when applied, the fragrance will last anywhere from 6 to 8 hours. You will not require touch-ups in the middle of your day.

Extraits represent a perfumer's purest expression of what he expects from a perfume. This type of perfume is created only by the highest-skilled craftspeople. Amir Oud's very own and popular Malaki Oud perfume are a few of the artisanal perfumery.

  1. Eau de Parfum

Eau de Parfum is best in terms of the concentration of the fragrance. The fragrance percentage is reduced to 15-20 percent, the remainder is taken up by alcohol. The aroma lasts from 6 to 8 hours. Therefore, you do not need to reapply very frequently and it is great for wearing at night.

  1. Eau de Toilette

Eau de Toilette, developed from the French phrase, “faire sa toilette” which translates to grooming yourself, is a normal fragrance to accompany you after a visit to the showers.

It is the most affordable perfume and has an air of exclusivity to it. The fragrance ranges from 5 to 15 percent of the formulation, enough to last anywhere from one to three hours.

  1. Eau De Cologne

Many people misuse the word - cologne and indicate it as a premium fragrance which is not the case. The cologne has a mild fragrance that is easy on people with sensitive noses. The cologne has a fragrance concentration of 2 to 4 percent and is perfect for making a statement of style without endeavoring to burn away the olfactory systems of the people near you.

  1. Eau Fraiche

Eau fraiche which is the mildest fragrance, hence, a great option for those who don’t like the strong fragrances but still want to set themselves apart. With a concentration of one to three percent, this fragrance usually lasts up to three hours after application.
